First sign-in and 2FA setup

Short answer: open the link in your invite email, enter the address the invite was sent to, open the confirmation email, choose a password, sign in, click Join, then scan a QR code with your authenticator app. Two-factor sign-in (2FA) is required for everyone; you cannot use the portal or connect an AI app without it.

What you need

  • The invite email from StackTether. The link works once and expires after 7 days.
  • Access to the mailbox the invite was sent to.
  • An authenticator app on your phone that shows 6-digit codes.

Steps

  1. Open the invite link. The page Join your team on StackTether opens.
  2. Enter your email. Type the address the invite was sent to in Email (the address the invite was sent to) and click Continue. StackTether always shows the same message here, whether or not the address matches, so it never reveals which invites exist.
  3. Confirm your email. Open the confirmation email and click its link. On the page that opens, press Continue (the extra click stops email scanners from using the link before you do).
  4. Choose a password. On Email confirmed: choose your password, enter a password of 12 to 72 characters twice and click Save password. Very common passwords are refused.
  5. Sign in. On Sign in to StackTether, enter your email and the new password and click Sign in.
  6. Join your MSP. On Your invites, click Join next to the MSP that invited you.
  7. Set up 2FA. On Set up two-factor sign-in, click Start setup. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (or type the key shown under it), enter the 6-digit code and click Confirm.

From then on, every sign-in is your password followed by a code on Enter your 2FA code.

Check it worked

  • You land on Home in the portal, with your email, MSP and role under Signed in.
  • Account shows 2FA as set up.

FAQ

The invite link says it is incomplete.

Copy the whole link from the email into your browser, or ask your admin to use Resend on your invite. A resend makes a new link and the old one stops working.

I never got the confirmation email.

Check your junk or spam folder and any email quarantine for mail from the stacktether.com domain. If your mail filter holds it, release it and allow the domain. See Troubleshooting.

The page says "Confirm your email address first".

Your password was right, but the email was not confirmed yet. Open the link in the confirmation email, then sign in again.

"That code did not work."

Check that your phone's clock is set automatically, then enter the newest code. Codes change every 30 seconds.

"Too many attempts. Wait 15 minutes, then try again."

StackTether pauses code checks after repeated wrong codes. Wait 15 minutes. If you have lost your authenticator, ask an admin of your MSP to reset your 2FA.
