Getting started with StackTether
Short answer: StackTether connects your PSA to AI apps such as Claude and ChatGPT through one secure connector address. To get going, an admin accepts the invite and turns on 2FA, connects the PSA with a read-only API user, turns on vendor access for each person, switches on the AI apps your team uses, and then each person connects their AI app. Every AI tool call shows up in the audit log.
Plan on about 30 minutes for the first admin, most of it creating the API user in your PSA. After that, each tech needs about 5 minutes.
What you need
- A StackTether invite email. Accounts are invite-only, so there is no open sign-up.
- An authenticator app on your phone (any app that shows 6-digit codes, for example Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator or a password manager with one-time codes).
- Admin access to your PSA (Kaseya BMS or Autotask today) so you can create a dedicated API user.
- An AI app your MSP uses, on a plan that allows custom connectors (see AI apps).
The six steps
- Accept your invite and set up 2FA. Open the link in the invite email, confirm your email address, choose a password, sign in and set up two-factor sign-in. Guide: First sign-in and 2FA.
- Invite your team. On Team, use Invite someone for each tech. Invites are for techs; promote someone to admin after they join. Guide: Invite your team.
- Connect your PSA. Create a read-only API user in Kaseya BMS or Autotask, then enter its details on Connections and click Test and connect. Guide: Connect your PSA.
- Give each person vendor access. Nobody gets access automatically, admins included. Open each member's page from Team and turn on the connections they need under Vendor access. Guide: Vendor access.
- Turn on AI apps and connect one. On AI access, switch on the apps your team uses. Then each person copies the Connector address from the Connect your AI app panel into their AI app and approves it on the StackTether page that opens. Guide: Connect an AI app.
- Check the audit log. Ask your AI app something like "show my open tickets", then open Audit log. You should see the tool call with your name, the app and the outcome. Guide: Audit log.
Check it worked
- Connections shows your PSA as the Primary PSA with a Last tested date.
- Account lists your vendor access and, once connected, your AI app under Your connected AI apps.
- Your AI app answers a PSA question, and the call appears in Audit log with the outcome Success.
FAQ
Do techs need to do anything in the PSA?
No. Only an admin creates the PSA API user once. Techs sign in to StackTether, set up 2FA and connect their AI app.
Why can my AI app not see any data after I connected it?
Most often vendor access is still off for you. An admin turns it on per person under Team, on your member page. See Troubleshooting.
Is there a free trial or self sign-up?
Not yet. StackTether is invite-only today. To ask about access, use the contact form.
